not be able to move. In this case, port and heater platens
will begin to move, but will stop after a short time because
the door-open sensor has not been released. Again, the
welder will stop and must be reset.
Heating Phase
As the access doors close, the heater platen moves
forward. The part platens move to bring the parts into close
proximity to the heaters. When the platens are in position,
the heaters turn on and locally melt the part joint area
Join Phase
After the heating phase is complete, the platens open a few
inches and the heater plate moves back. After the heater
platen is in the home position the part platens move to

join position. The parts are pressed together to a distance
(position). This allows the molten plastic to fuse together
and solidify. This joining also corrects any warping
problems by forcing the parts into the proper geometry.

Release Phase
The part platens now open to their starting or load
position as illustrated in Figure 5- 4 . At the same time,
the access doors open. Again, the area protected by the
light curtain cannot be penetrated until the access doors
are fully open. If the protected area is penetrated during
the door transition, the welder will immediately stop and
must be reset.
