Fastening seat belts
Observe the safety notes on seat belts

WARNING
If the seat-belt extender extends during the
journey, the seat belt is not sitting correctly
across your body. The seat belt then cannot
perform its intended protective function.
There is an increased risk of injury, possibly
even fatal.
During a journey, make sure that the seat-belt
extender is retracted.
The seat-belt extenders for the driver and front-
passenger make it easier for you to fasten a seat
belt. If you close the corresponding door and the
key is in position 1 or 2 in the ignition lock, seat-
belt extender = extends out.
You can also extend seat-belt extender = with
seat-belt extender button ?.
Occupant safety
Press seat-belt extender button ?.

Seat-belt extender = extends out.
Seat-belt extender = retracts if:
you engage the belt tongue in the buckle

the seat belt buckle tongue is not engaged in
R
the buckle within 60 seconds
In this case, you can extend seat-belt
extender = again. Press seat-belt extender
button ? again.
you open the corresponding door
R
you turn the key to position 0 in the ignition
R
lock
you unlock the seat backrest and fold it for-
R
wards
no one is sitting on the front-passenger side
R
(after approximately 5 seconds)
If you then press seat-belt extender but-
ton ?, seat-belt extender = no longer
extends.

The seat backrest must be in an almost ver-
tical position.
Pull the seat belt out smoothly from belt outlet

and engage belt tongue ; into belt
buckle :.
If necessary, the seat belt on the driver's seat
and front-passenger seat are tightened auto-
matically; see "Belt adjustment"
(
page 44).

If necessary, pull upwards on the shoulder
X
section of the seat belt to tighten the belt
across your body.
