Manual sending _____________________________

If you would like to first speak with the person you are sending the document to, use manual sending. You
need to connect the optional handset, a telephone or an extension phone to the fax for manual sending.
Follow the procedure below to send a document using manual sending.

Load the document face down into the Automatic
Document Feeder (ADF).
See Loading documents, p. 3-3.
You can set the scanning resolution and contrast. (see p. 6-2)

Lift the handset or press [Hook] and dial the
receiving party's fax number.
Use one of the dialling methods described on page
3
If a person answers, converse normally using the
handset, then ask them to press the start button on
their fax. Press [Start] and hang up.
If you hear a high pitch tone, press [Start] and hang up.
• The fax will beep if the optional handset is not hung up properly. Make sure the optional handset is
seated properly in its cradle. If you do not want the fax to beep, disable the OFFHOOK ALARM setting.
(see p. 8-3)
• If an error occurs during sending, the fax beeps intermittently for a few seconds. If this happens, try
sending the document again.
• If an error message appears on the LCD, correct the error and then press [Stop]. See LCD messages,
p. 9-18.
