x SCREEN SAVER
Turns on and of f the scr een saver . If you tur n on the
screen saver , the scr een saver image appears when you
leave the player or the r emote in pause or stop mode for
15 minutes, or when you play back a CD for mor
minutes. The scr een saver will help pr event your display
device fr om becoming damaged.
• ON: tur ns on the scr een saver .
• OFF: turns of f the scr een saver .
x BACKGROUND
Selects the backgr ound color or pictur e on the TV scr een
in stop mode or while playing a CD.
• JACKET PICTURE: The jacket pictur e appears in the
backgr ound, but only when the jacket pictur
recor ded on the disc (for instance, a CD-EXTRA).
• PICTURE MEMOR Y : Your favorite pictur e appears in
the backgr ound. For an explanation of how to stor
your favorite scene r ecorded on the disc for the
backgr ound pictur e, see the following section "Storing a
picture in memor y."
• GRAPHICS: A pr e set pictur e stor ed in the player
appears in the backgr ound.
• BLUE: The background color is blue.
• BLACK: The background color is black.
Note
If a disc which does not contain the jacket picture is played while
"BACKGROUND" is set to "JACKET PICTURE," the picture
stored in the player will automatically appear in the background.
x STARTUP SCREEN
Selects the star tup screen. The star tup screen image you
selected appears when you tur n on the player .
• STANDARD: The standar d star tup screen in the
player 's memor y appears.
• PICTURE MEMOR Y : Your favorite pictur e appears in
the star tup screen. For an explanation of how to stor
your favorite scene r ecor ded on the disc for the star tup
screen, see the following section "Storing a pictur
memor y."
If you select PICTURE MEMORY befor e setting a
picture in memor y, the standar d star tup screen will
appear.
Storing a picture in memory
During playback, when you find the scene to be stor
in memory , press PICTURE MEMOR Y on the r e mote.

• The player can store only one scene in memory. The stored
picture appears in both the background and the startup screen.
• When the picture is stored in memory by pressing PICTURE
e
MEMORY, the picture stored before is erased.
• If you operate this player while the picture is being stored in
memory, the player will fail to store the picture.
• Depending on the DVD, some scenes cannot be stored in
memory.
x BLACK LEVEL
You can select the black level (setup level) for the output
video (NTSC) signal.
• OFF: This will set the black level of the output signal to
the standar d level. Nor mally set it to OFF .
• ON: This will raise the standar d black level. Use this
setting when the pictur e appears too dark.
Notes
• Black level setup does not work for progressive (525p) signals
output from the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT connectors.
• This does not work with PAL format discs.
