J MODE SELECT switch
Note
You will need to reformat the HDD
whenever you change its structure mode,
and all previously recorded data will be lost.
Be sure to back up any important data
before changing the mode.
Selects the internal HDD structure.
[220GB] is selected under factory default
settings.
220GB: Use the HDD as a single 220 GB
drive.
73GB×3: Use the HDD as three 73 GB
drives.
If you change the switch setting, the change
will be detected the next time you turn on
the unit, and all of the indicators
(BATTERY, POWER, and ACCESS) will
flash. Perform the mode switching
operation while the indicators are flashing.

operation, see "Selecting the Drive Mode"
(page 14).
K Attachment ring
Attach the shoe adaptor when installing this
unit on the camcorder.
For more information on installation, see
"Installing on the Camcorder" (page 15).

Preparations

Note
For safety, use only the Sony battery packs
and battery chargers (AC adaptors) listed
below.
• BP-U30 or BP-U60 Lithium-ion Battery
Pack
• BC-U1 or BC-U2 Battery Charger (AC
adaptor)

Mounting the Battery Pack

Use this unit with a battery pack mounted.
The BP-U30 Battery Pack is recommended.
You can also use the BP-U60 Battery Pack,
but be sure to observe the following
precautions when doing so.
• Depending on the installation position,
this battery pack may interfere with
operation of the camcorder.
• The BP-U60 is heavier than the BP-U30.
If this unit should be dropped with the
BP-U60 mounted, the impact is greater
than when the BP-U30 is mounted.
Handle this unit with care, being careful
not to drop it or allow it to tip over.
Note
This unit does not have a recharging
function. Before mounting the battery pack,
charge it with the special BC-U1 or BC-U2
battery charger.
For information on how to charge the battery pack,
refer to the Operating Instructions of the battery
charger.
