If Your Engine Quits or Won't
SYMPTOM: Starter motor doesn't operate.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
transmission not in
neutral
blown fuse
battery lead loose
low battery
faulty starter motor
SYMPTOM: Starter motor works, but the engine won't
start.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
out of fuel
flooded engine
loose or unconnected
spark plug caps
loose battery cables
weak battery
WHAT TO DO
Shift into neutral or press on
the brake pedal.
Replace with a new fuse of the
same rating (page 216).
Tighten the battery lead.
Charge the battery (page 187).
If charging doesn't help, see
your dealer.
If all possible causes are
negative, the starter motor
may be faulty. See your dealer.
WHAT TO DO
Fill the fuel tank.
See starting the engine step 5
(page 83).
Install the spark plug caps
securely. If the engine still
won't start, see your dealer.
Tighten the battery terminal
bolts.
Charge the battery (page 187).
If charging doesn't help, see
your dealer.
