Checking Coolant Level

The coolant level can be checked vis
ually at the transparent coolant reser

To check the coolant level, the vehicle
must be parked on level ground.
The coolant level m ust reach:
The marking (2, arrow) on the reser
voir when the engine is cold.
Approx. 2 cm (0.8 in) higher when the
engine is at operating tem perature.

Adding Coolant

If coolant has to be added, a 50/50
mixture of w ater and MB anticorro
sion/antifreeze should be used.
Warning!
Do not open the engine hood if
you see or hear steam or coolant
escaping from the engine com
partment. With the engine idling
and the climate control system
switched off, wait until no steam
or coolant can be seen before
opening the hood.
Do not remove pressure cap on
coolant reservoir if engine tem
perature is above 90° C (194° F).
Allow engine to cool down
before removing cap. The coo
lant reservoir contains hot water
and is under pressure.
Using a rag, turn cap to first
notch to relieve excess pressure.
If opened immediately, hot
scalding fluid and steam will be
blown out under pressure.
The drain plugs are located on the
right side of the engine and on the
radiator bottom .
