  • Page 3: To Use The Printer Safely

    Do not handle the plug with wet hands - this constitutes an electric shock hazard. This printer is heavy and weighs approximately 31.5 kg (69.4 lb). When you move or lift this printer, make sure at least 2 people lift it together.
  • Page 4 If the printer becomes hot, blows smoke, or generates obscure odor, immediately turn off the power switch and unplug the printer from the AC power outlet/socket. Call your dealer or Brother Customer Service.     It is fully compatible with the industry-standard bi-directional parallel interface. The Brother network board is factory installed in the HL-2700CN, which enables you to use this printer in the TCP/IP, IPS/SPX, AppleTalk, DLC/LLC and NetBEUI environments. Also, many useful utilities, such as BRAdmin Professional utility for the administrator and Brother network printing software, are included in the CD-ROM supplied with the HL-2700CN printer.

Five emulation modes This printer can emulate PCL 5C and PCL 6 language printers, Brother BR-Script3 printers, HP-GL plotter as well as EPSON FX-850 and IBM Proprinter XL printers (for monochrome printing only). You can print with all application programs that support one of these printers.

    Panel lock setting If the panel button settings have been changed, the printer may not work as you expect. If you are an administrator of this printer, you can lock your settings to prevent changes from being made. See SETUP on page 3-12.

    Keep the printer clean. Do not put the printer in a dusty place. Do not put the printer in direct sunlight. If you have to put it near a window, use a blind or a heavy curtain to protect the printer from direct sunlight.

    What kind of paper can I use? Type and size of paper The printer loads paper from the installed standard paper tray, optional lower tray, or the optional legal tray. Standard paper tray Since the standard paper tray is a universal type, you can use any of the paper sizes (one paper size at a time) listed in table 1 in Media type, paper size and number of sheets for paper source on page 1-11.

    Labels and transparencies The printer will print on most types of labels and transparencies designed for use with a laser printer. Labels should have an adhesive which is acrylic-based since such material is more stable at the high temperatures in the fusing unit. Adhesives should not come in contact with any part of the printer, because the label stock may stick to the drum or rollers and cause jams and print quality problems.

    Manual feed Since this printer does not have a manual feed or multi purpose tray, you cannot manually feed irregular sized paper. However, this printer has a special manual feed mode using Tray 1 (standard paper tray) to accommodate non-standard paper sizes. You can select this mode with the printer driver or the control panel buttons.

While the printer is in sleep mode, the printer can still receive data from the computer. Receiving a print file or document automatically wakes up the printer to start printing.

Moreover, you can execute the saved macro - in other words, you can use the saved macro as an overlay on any documents.     If the administrator then installs the printer driver and port driver using this software, he can save the file to the file server or send the file by E-mail to users. Then, each user just clicks that file to have the printer driver, port driver, IP address, and so on, automatically copied to their PC.

    HP-GL EPSON FX-850 To get the most out of this laser printer, we recommend that you use the Brother BR-Script3 emulation. The printer is set to the HP color printer emulation (PCL 5C) mode automatically. Since PCL 5C mode takes the highest priority in the Automatic Emulation Selection, in most cases you can start using the printer as it is with the factory settings.

    Control panel Control panel This printer has one liquid crystal display (LCD), six buttons and two Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) on the control panel. The display can show various messages with up to 16 characters in each of the two rows.

    During a pause, the printer is off-line. If the printer is in PAUSE mode and you do not want to print the data that is left, you can cancel the job by pressing the Job Cancel button. Once the job has been canceled, the printer will return to the READY state.

    Back button If you press the Back button when the printer is in the on-line (Ready) state, it goes off-line and the LCD goes to the menu. Pressing the Back allows you to return to the previous level from the current menu level.

    Liquid crystal display (LCD) The display shows the current printer status. When you use the control panel buttons, the display will change. If you take the printer off-line, the display changes to show the emulation you have chosen.     This printer has the following emulation modes: HP LaserJet mode The HP LaserJet mode (or HP mode) is the emulation mode in which this printer supports the PCL 5C and PCL 6 language of the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet laser printer. Many software applications support this type of laser printer.

    Also, if you have created a document that you wish to share with colleagues, simply spool the document to a non-secure area of the printer. This document can then be reprinted by anyone who is on the network or at the printer control panel.
  • Page 84: Reprinting The Last Job

    If you want to cancel reprinting, press the Job Cancel button. If the printer does not have enough memory to spool the print job data, it will print only the last page. We recommend that you expand the memory when you want to reprint a large amount of data.

    Documents here will not be protected by a password and anyone can access them using the control panel or a web browser. The printer will not print a PUBLIC document when you send it to the printer. You must use the control panel of the printer or connect to the printer through a web browser.
