Deployment zones

Deployment zones of intrinsically safe devices (intrinsically safe sensors, actuators and HART field
devices)
The use of the Ex module groups enables the deployment of intrinsically safe devices in the
following zones:
• Zone 0/ 20 (hazardous area)
• Zone 1/ 21 (hazardous area)
• Zone 2/ 22 (hazardous area)
• Safe area
Deployment zones of the I/O station
The use of the I/O station including the Ex module groups is permitted in the following zones:
• Zone 2 (hazardous area)
• Safe area
Configuration in the specific plant area
• Basic assembly of the I/O station (Page 19)
4.3.2

Rules and regulations for operation

Introduction
The integration of I/O systems in a plant or system demands that specific rules and regulations
are observed, depending on the area of application.
NOTICE
Connecting a sensor or actuator to an Ex I/O module
Before a sensor or actuator is connected to an Ex I/O module, an expert must perform a safety
analysis of this intrinsically safe circuit, if necessary.
• Planning intrinsically safe circuits (Page 46)
• Electrical parameters for the safety concept (Page 45)
This section provides an overview of the most important rules that must be observed.
