The charts that follow contain suggestions that can be used to assist in
diagnosing hydraulic system performance issues. The suggestions are not
all−inclusive. Also, consider that there may be more than one cause for a
machine problem.
Review the hydraulic schematic and information on hydraulic system operation in
the Hydraulic Flow Diagrams in Hydraulic System chapter. This information will
be useful during the hydraulic troubleshooting process.
Refer to the
Testing (page 5–27)
procedures.
Problem
Hydraulic oil leaks from machine.
Hydraulic system operates hot.
Hydraulic fluid foams.
for precautions and specific hydraulic test
Possible Causes
Fitting(s), hose(s) or tube(s) is (are) loose or
damaged.
O−ring(s) or seal(s) is (are) missing or
damaged.
Transmission pressure is high due to load or
brakes applied.
Oil level in reservoir is low, or inlet filter is loose
or clogged.
Oil is contaminated or too light.
Heat exchanger (if equipped) is damaged or
plugged. By−pass relief is stuck open or air
flow is obstructed.
Charge pressure is low.
Towing by−pass valve is open or defective.
Wheel motor(s) or reel motor(s) are worn or
damaged.
Trump pump is worn or damaged.
Oil level in reservoir is low.
Hydraulic system has wrong type of oil.
One of the pump suction lines has an air leak.
Incompatible hydraulic oils are mixed in the
hydraulic system.
Water contamination is in the hydraulic system.
