Running a cable check
30
The SmartClass Tester's optional copper features allow quick turn-up and
basic troubleshooting of the copper local loop.
The copper features include two quick tests:
– cable check, auto test
– snapshot test
You can also perform specific measurements for the following tests:
– AC volts
– DC volts
– Resistance
– Leakage
– Distance to short
– Opens (distance) and capacitance
– DC current
– Balance
– Load coil detect
Each of these tests is described in the following sections.
The cable check is an JDSU out-of-service pair quality test. It automatically
performs a series of test including: DVOM (AC/DC volts, resistance), Opens/
Capacitance, Balance, and Load Coil Detect. It also compares results to user-
defined threshold values and provides a pass/fail indication.
To run a cable check
1 Connect the tip (A), ring (B), and ground (earth) leads to the line under
test.
2 From the main menu, select COPPER TEST.
3 Press the 1 key to select CABLE CHECK.
The test begins to run.
As each test runs, the test summary is updated. The summary provides a
simple pass/fail indication.
NOTE:
You can specify the pass/fail threshold values on the COPPER TEST>
SETUP menu.
The test stops automatically when complete.
4 To view more detail, use the arrow keys to scroll through the result values.
To learn what your results mean, see
Results".
You can save your results, if desired. See
