TRACTION DRIVE IDLER ARM
REPLACEMENT

Remove Traction Drive Idler Arm

IMPORTANT: Save all hardware for reinstallation.
1.
Stop engine, remove key and wait for all moving parts
to stop and for hot parts to cool.
2.
Disconnect spark plug wire from engine.
3.
Loosen, but DO NOT remove hardware retaining belt
cover and remove belt cover.
4.
Disconnect idler spring from traction drive idler. See
Figure 29.
WARNING: AVOID INJURY. Before placing unit
in service position, drain fuel from tank and fuel
system. See Draining Fuel System on page 7.
Make sure unit is secure and will not tip.
5.
Place unit in service position. See Service Position on
page 7.
6.
Remove bottom cover. See Bottom Cover Removal on
page 11.
7.
Move speed selector lever to the fastest forward
position.

8.
Remove hardware retaining traction drive idler arm
and remove idler assembly. See Figure 30.

Install Traction Drive Idler Arm

1.
Secure traction drive idler assembly to support bracket
with original hex bolt, sleeve bushing and flange nut.
See Figure 31.
2.
Reinstall bottom cover and secure with original
hardware.
3.
Return unit to operating position and reinstall traction
drive idler spring.
4.
Reinstall belt cover and secure with original hardware.
5.
Reconnect spark plug wire and fill fuel tank.
6.
Adjust traction drive clutch. Refer to operator's manual
for instructions.
IMPORTANT: Check all adjustments after first use.
