1-4-1. Identifying the Player and Recorder

The unit is a portable editor compliant with the Betacam SX format, and consists of two VTRs.
The VTR on the left (as you face the unit) is provided with analog playback heads for Betacam/Betacam
SP, in addition to digital recording and playback heads for Betacam SX. The VTR on the right is provid-
ed with digital recording and playback heads for Betacam SX.
In the maintenance manuals, the VTR on the left is called "Player" (or PLAYER), and the VTR on the
right is called "Recorder" (or RECORDER) for explanation purposes, only when the need for
distinguishing one from the other comes about.
Both VTRs are almost the same in appearance and circuit configurations. Therefore, it is difficult to
identify the VTRs when they are separated and their bottom plate and upper frame are removed.
The following outline the differences in the appearance and functions of the recorder and player.
