Remote Management Module Installation and Maintenance Practice

OPERATION

The RMM can occupy any access module slot and terminates a DS1 signal in the Total Access
3000/3010 system.

Power Interface

The RMM receives power from the Total Access 3000/3010 system.

SCU User/Supervisory Interface

User access to the RMM is through the SCU via the system bus present on the Total Access
backplane. All menu items will be generated by the RMM. The SCU will initiate and control the
transfer of commands and data to and from the unit. All provisioning and data reporting will
take place over the communication bus.

Ethernet/LAN Interface

The Ethernet port automatically adjusts to accommodate 10 or 100 Mbps devices. Ethernet
pinout transmits on pins 1 and 2 and receives on pins 3 and 6.

DS1/WAN Interface

The DS1/WAN interface supports ESF framing, recovered or local timing, line coding, line
build out, and works at clock rates of 1.544 Mbps ±50 ppm. This interface responds to in-
band CSU loopback codes only when loopback detection is enabled. Refer to
Loopbacks" on page 10 for more information.
The DS1/WAN port interfaces to a selected DS1 tributary within a DS3 or STS-1, depending
on the installed multiplexer, when Network Source is set to MUX.
Setting Network Source to DSX-1 connects the DS1/WAN port to to an external DSX-1
interface on Pair 7 and 8.

PPP

The PPP link is a protocol that operates over the physical DS1/WAN interface and encapsu-
lates data traffic. The RMM PPP link consists of the LCP and BCP protocols and requires no
authentication. If the physical DS1/WAN interface goes into an alarm state, the PPP link also
goes into an alarm state.
