4.2 Embossed Tape Spacer
When you use a carrier tape for embossed components whose material is soft and
fragile, the stability of the feeding or pick-up operation of the tape feeder decreases,
and the component pick-up ratio may be lowered.
In such a case, attach the embossed tape spacer on the bottom side of the carrier tape.
The component pick-up ratio is improved.
4.2.1 Pasting an embossed tape spacer
Use an adhesive tape to paste the embossed tape spacer on the bottom side of the
feeder base tape-traveling section so that the front edge of the embossed tape spacer
can be alighted with the top of the sprocket wheel.
(When you mark (p) at a position of the feeder base that is aligned with the top of the
sprocket wheel, you can position the embossed tape spacer easily.)

CAUTION
4.2.2 Combination of the embossed tape spacer thickness
Three types of embossed tape spacers are provided as the supplied parts: thickness
of each spacer is different (0.5 mm, 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm).
Use one type embossed tape spacer or several types of embossed tape spacers in a
single layer so that the upper and lower direction clearances of the embossed tape can
become the smallest.
CAUTION

• Before you paste the embossed tape spacer, remove oil and stains
stuck to the bottom side of the feeder base with a waste rug
moistened with IPA or ethanol.
• When you paste the embossed tape spacer, push the embossed tape
spacer against the frame side to stabilize adhesiveness of the
two-sided tape.
Check the thickness of the embossed tape you are to use, and then
combine the embossed tape spacers so that the upper and lower
direction clearances can become the smallest.
However, be sure to make a clearance between the embossed tape
spacer and the embossed tape. If this clearance is too small, it may
cause the tape feeder to feed a component improperly.
