Recording from CD onto MD and tape
simultaneously
1 Insert a recordable MD and a tape.
Insert a tape with the side to be recorded on first facing
upward.
2 Press CD E to select the CD function and load
a CD.
3 Press SP/LP repeatedly to select the recording
mode.
- "SP" : standard length stereo recording mode
- "LP2" : two times longer stereo recording
- "LP4" : four times longer stereo recording
4 Press CD SYNCHRO REC SEL (REC SEL on the
remote control) to display "CDlMD/TAPE".
5 Within 6 seconds, press REC START (REC/REC
PAUSE on the remote control).
Simultaneous recording starts.
•It is impossible to pause recording.
•The MD recording is made in digital.
•You can set the CD to the random play mode or programmed
play mode before starting the simultaneous recording. To
do so, after inserting a CD at step 2, set the play mode to
the desired one.
To stop recording
Press s.
Press s again to stop CD play.
When CD play ends
Recording onto MD and tape stops automatically.
At the end of recording of an MD or a tape
When the MD is recorded to the end, but the tape is still
recordable, the recording continues.
When the tape is recorded to the end, but the MD is still
recordable, the recording continues.
To record from CD onto MD and tape simultaneously
in the other way
Simultaneous recording can be made in the other way.
1 Follow steps 1 to 3 in "Recording from CD onto MD and
tape simultaneously".
2 Press REC SEL repeatedly until "REC MD/TAPE" is
displayed.
3 Within 6 seconds, press REC START (REC/REC PAUSE on
the remote control).
The unit enters recording pause mode.
4 Press REC START.
Simultaneous recording starts.
•It is possible to pause recording if you press REC START
(REC/REC PAUSE on the remote control).
•The MD recording is made in analog.
Copy-protect features
SCMS
When digital recording is attempted from recorded material
with copyrights, digital dubbing cannot be performed to a
recordable MD from another MD recorded in digital because
of the built-in record restriction function which complies with
the SCMS* standard.
* SCMS (Serial Copy Management System) is the standard
to restrict single digital dubbing between digital audio
systems thus protecting copyrights.

* Recording from a digitally recorded CD-R/RW to an MD is
not possible.
HCMS
Restriction on double speed recording
To protect copyrighted material against abusive digital
copying, this unit prohibits continuous double speed
recordings of any given CD in compliance with the HCMS
standard. Once a double speed recording is started, the same
CD cannot be recorded at double speed again for the next 74
minutes. This applies even if the recording has been stopped
in the middle.
* HCMS (High-speed Copy Management System) is the
standard to prohibit continuous double speed digital
recordings from the same CD
