• Press the VCR button before pressing other feature VCR buttons; press the TV button before pressing other TV fea-
ture buttons; press the CBL/DBS button before pressing other Cable Box/Direct Broadcast System feature buttons.
• The buttons with a shaded description may also operate features of your TV, Cable Box, or Direct Broadcast System.
• Buttons that are shaded in the illustration light up for five seconds when you press any button on the remote control.
STATUS/EXIT Button
Press to access or remove the VCR's on-screen status display. Details are on
page 26. Press to exit on-screen menus. Or, press the TV button, then press
the STATUS/EXIT button to access or remove some TV displays or menus.
SMART PICTURE Button
During tape playback, press repeatedly to select a Smart Picture mode.
Details are on page 49.
STOP/p Button
Press to stop the tape. Press to select an item in the VCR menu. Or, press
when in TV mode to select an item in some TV menus.
CH(annel) o/p Buttons
Press to change channels at the VCR or at some TVs, Cable Boxes, or
Direct Broadcast Systems.
VCR Button
Press to operate the VCR with the remote control.
CBL/DBS Button
Press to operate some Cable Boxes or Direct Broadcast Systems with the
remote control. Details are on page 22.
TV Button
Press to operate some TVs with the remote control. Details are on page 21.
SPEED Button
Press to select the recording speed (SP or SLP). Details are on pages 36
and 60.
VCR/TV Button
Press to select VCR or TV position.
VCR Position
Use to watch a tape, to watch a program while recording it, or to watch
a TV broadcast using the CH(annel) o/p or Number buttons to change
channels at the VCR. If the VCR light appears on the display panel of the
VCR, it is in VCR position.
TV Position
Use to watch TV (changing channels at the TV) or to watch one program
while recording another. Details are on page 33. If the VCR light doesn't
appear on the display panel of the VCR, it is in TV position.
F(rame). ADV(ance) Button
Press when in Still mode to advance the picture one frame at a time.

INDEX SEARCH Button
Press to fast forward or rewind to the starting points of programs that
you have recorded on a tape. Details are on page 51.
TIME SEARCH Button
Press to fast forward or rewind the tape a specific length of time. Details
are on page 50.
