60 Configuring ISDN BRI hardware
Installing the clock controller on the MISP (for trunking
applications)
A clock controller is only required for ISDN BRI trunk applications. The
system supports a single active clock controller. This clock controller can
support a primary and a secondary reference clock. These reference clock
sources are derived from BRI spans or DSLs (DSL 0 and/or DSL 1).
A clock controller is required in every cabinet or Media Gateway that
contains a digital trunk.
The line cards associated with BRI DSLs used as clock references are
installed in the Small System main cabinet or Media Gateway.
Use the following guidelines when installing the clock controller on the
MISP:

.
If the primary reference clock source comes from a PRI or DTI, then
the clock controller is a daughterboard on the DTI/PRI card.
If the primary reference clock is derived from a BRI DSL, then the CC
daughterboard is on the MISP associated with that line card. DSL0 of
that line card is used to generate the reference clock.
To use a DTI/PRI as a secondary clock source reference, the clock
controller daughterboard must reside on a DTI, PRI, or MISP. The
clock is extracted from the target DTI/PRI span and routed to the clock
controller over the back plane.
To use a BRI DSL as a secondary clock source reference, the clock
controller daughterboard must reside on a DTI/PRI or an MISP. The
clock is extracted from DSL1 of the source line card and routed over
the backplane to the CC.
Action
Remove the cover from the assigned system.
ATTENTION
Wear the static discharge bracelet located inside the cabinet or Media
Gateway before handling circuit cards. Failure to wear the bracelet
can damage the circuit cards.
Remove the SILC or UILC from its shipping package and hold
it by its card locking devices.
Insert the SILC or UILC into the selected card slot and lock it in
place.
