Setting up the configuration environment

You can use the serial console port or the mini USB console port to connect the switch to a
configuration terminal. These two configuration methods cannot be used simultaneously.
As a best practice, use the serial console port to connect the switch to a configuration terminal. The
switch is provided with a serial console cable.
To connect the switch to a configuration terminal through the mini USB console port, prepare a mini
USB console cable yourself.
This example uses the serial console port to connect the switch to a configuration terminal (PC).

Serial console cable

A serial console cable is an 8-core cable, with a crimped RJ-45 connector at one end for connecting
to the serial console port of the switch, and a DB-9 female connector at the other end for connecting
to the serial port on the console terminal.
