Ballnut Removal And Replacement - Powermate Aluminum LE Series Operating Manual

PROCEDURE:
1. T o begin, the scre w assem bly m ust be rem oved from the unit.
F ollo w the proced ure for D rive S cre w rem oval a nd replacem ent.
2. R em ove the tape from the drive scre w th at is keeping the ballnut
in positio n, if installed.
3. A pply one la yer of thin plastic tape ban din g aro und the lon g turned
end of the screw o ver th e cross hole. T his is the end that the
balln ut w ill be rem oved.
4. S tand the drive scre w vertically w ith the lon g turned end u p.
T hread the ballnut up the scre w until it is com pletely d iseng age d
from the thread. T he tape over the cross hole p reve nts the balls in
the balln ut from falling o ut into the cross hole.
5. P lace a C ardb oard A rb or firm ly against the end of the screw ,
insurin g that it is centered and squ are, and slid e the balln ut up
onto the cardboard arbo r. A ttach spring clips to both ends of the
arbor to retain the balln ut.
6. T o install a ballnut, the reverse happ ens. R em ove the sprin g clip
from the cardboard arb or on the square en d of the balln ut. B e sure
the arbor does not dise ngag e the arbor or all th e balls in the
balln ut w ill fall out.
7. P lace the end of the arbor firm ly, centered and square, onto the
long turne d end of the drive scre w . S lid e the ballnut off the arbor
onto the scre w , o ver the tape and eng age the drive scre w threa d.
A llo w the ballnut to spin do w n the scre w to ap proxim ately halfwa y
alon g its length. B and tape arou nd the scre w a t both ends of the
balln ut to keed the balln ut in position.
8. R em ove the plastic tap e from the cross hole.
9. R eturn to the instruction for the installation of the D rive S cre w ,
step 4.
