J u m p S ta rtin g
If the b a tte ry is d isc h a rg e d th e en gine
can be s ta rte d w ith ju m p e r ca b le s and
th e (12 V) b a tte ry of a n o th e r vehicle.
P roce ed as fo llo w s :
1.
P osition th e veh icle w ith the
cha rge d b a tte ry so th a t th e ju m ­
per c ab le s w ill reach, b u t never let
th e v e h ic le s to u c h . M ake su re the
ju m p e r c ab le s do n o t have loose
o r m issing insulation.
2.
On b o th v e h icle s:
Turn o ff e n gine and all lig h ts
and a cc e ss o rie s, e x c e p t
hazard fla sh e rs o r w o rk lights.
A p p ly pa rkin g bra ke and sh ift
s e le c to r lever to p o s itio n " P " .
Be sure the b a tte ry v e n t caps
are tig h t. Place a da m p clo th
o ve r th e v e n t caps, m aking
c e rta in it is cle a r o f all m oving
parts.

Clam p one end o f th e firs t ju m p e r
cable to th e p o sitiv e ( + ) te rm in a l
on the d is ch a rg e d b a tte ry and the
o th e r end to th e p o s itiv e ( + ) te r­
m inal on the c ha rge d ba tte ry.
M ake sure th e cable cla m ps do
not to u c h any o th e r m etal parts.
4.
C la m p o n e e n d o fth e s e c o n d ju m p -
e r cab le to th e g ro u n d e d negative
( - ) te rm in a l o f th e c h a rg e d b a t­
te ry and th e final c o n n e c tio n to a
g ro u n d e d heavy m etal b ra c k e t in
the e n gine c o m p a rtm e n t o r on the
e n gine o f th e d is a b le d vehicle.
M ake su re th e ca b le s are n o t on
o r near pulleys, fans, o r o th e r
p a rts th a t w ill m ove w h e n the
e n gine is s ta rte d .
5.
S ta rt e n g in e o f the ve h icle w ith the
c h a rg e d b a tte ry and run at high
idle. Then s ta rt e n gine o f th e d is a ­
bled v e h ic le in th e usual m anner.
. A fte r th e e n gine has s ta rte d ,

rem o ve ju m p e r ca b le s by re v e rs ­
ing th e above in sta lla tio n s e ­
q u e n ce exa ctly, s ta rtin g w ith th e
ju m p e r cab le c o n n e c te d to a
heavy m etal b ra c k e t in th e d isa ­
bled v e h ic le 's e n gine c o m p a rt­
m ent. W hen re m o v in g each clam p,
m ake s u re th a t it d o e s n o t to u c h
any o th e r m etal w h ile th e o th e r
end is still a tta ch e d .
Im p o rtan t!
A d isc h a rg e d b a tte ry can fre e ze at
a p p ro x. - 1 0 ° C ( + 1 4 ° F). In tha t
case it m u st be th a w e d o u t b e fore
ju m p e r ca b le s are used.
