b e lts in su ch a w ay th a t th e y fit m ore
s n u g ly ag ainst th e b o d y re s tric tin g as
m uch as p o s s ib le its fo rw a rd m o ve ­
m ent.
In case s o f less seve re fro n ta l
im p acts, ro ll-o v e rs, side o r rear c o lli­
sio ns, o r o th e r a c c id e n ts w ith o u t se v­
ere fro n ta l fo rc e s , th e e m e rg e n cy te n ­
s io n in g re tra c to rs w ill n o t be a c ti­
vated. The d rive r and p a sse n g e rs w ill
th e n be p ro te c te d by th e fa s te n e d
seat b e lts and inertia reel in th e usual
m anner.

W arning!
Each o ccu p an t should w ea r his
s e a t b elt a t all tim es. T o g eth er
w ith th e "S R S " (driver air bag,
ETR's and driver-side knee b o l­
s te r), th e s e a t b elt offers the
b est conditions for p ro tectio n of
the body in case of severe frontal
im p act. Never w ea r th e shoulder
b elt under your arm or o therw ise
out of position. Position th e lap
b elt as low as possible around
the hips (n o t th e w aist).
Children are safer w hen properly
restrained in th e rear seatin g
p ositions than in th e front s e a t­
ing positions.
Infants and sm all children should
be s e a te d in an infant or child
restraint system , which is p ro p ­
erly secured by a lap b e lt or lap
b elt portion of a lap-shoulder
b elt. Children could be en d an ­
gered in an ac cid en t if th eir child
restraints are not properly
secured in th e vehicle.
Children to o big for child re­
strain t system s should ride in
rear s e a ts using regular seat
b elts. A shoulder b elt can be
used, providing it does not cross
the fac e or neck of a child.
Each s e at b elt should not be
used for m ore than one person at
a tim e.
B elts should not be worn
tw isted .
Pregnant w om en should s e le c t a
s e a t w ith a lap-shoulder b elt
w henever possible. The lap b elt
should be p ositio ned as low as
possible around th e hips, to
avoid any possible pressure on
the abdom en.
