Power, software and circuit pack installation
Gigabit Ethernet and 10-Gbit/s port units
To avoid thermic stress, it is recommended not to place a 10-Gbit/s port unit directly
above a Gigabit Ethernet port unit.
Optical port unit protection
In the case of optical port protection (1+1 Linear APS / 1+1 MSP) it is recommended
to place the working port unit and the protection port unit side by side for ease of
maintenance.
Electrical STM-1 port unit protection
In the case of electrical STM-1 port protection two EP155/EL8 circuit packs next to
each other (slot pair positions are: #21/22, #23/24, #25/26, #27/28, #32/33, #34/35,
#36/37, #38/39) and one ECI/155MP8 board at the back side of the subrack must
always be used.
NOTE: There is no restriction regarding the allocation of the worker and protection
port units within the protection slot pair.
DS3/EC1 equipment protection rules
To accomplish DS3/EC1 transmission (with or without 1+1 equipment protection), the
DS3/EC1 port units (EP51/EL36 (CC109308031) or EP51/EL36B (CC109546622))
must be located in the upper front row of the subrack. The associated ECI51/MP72
(CC109306969) interface paddle boards must be located in the upper rear row.
In a DS3/EC1 equipment protection configuration, the EP51 worker (W) and protection
(P) port units are adjacently inserted as pairs, as shown in the figure below. The
worker port unit can be flexibly configured on the right hand side or on the left hand
side of the protection port unit.
