JUMP STARTING
26)
13)
If the battery is flat, the engine may be
started using an auxiliary battery with
the same capacity or a little higher than
the flat one.
IMPORTANT After turning the ignition
key to STOP and having closed the
driver's side door, wait at least one
minute before disconnecting and then
reconnecting the battery electrical
supply.
83
IN AN EMERGENCY
Proceed as follows:
Engage the handbrake on both
vehicles and place the gearbox
in neutral. Connect the positive fig. 83
terminals (+ near the terminal) of the
two batteries with a jump lead.
Connect a second negative
terminal lead – for the auxiliary battery
with an earth point E at the engine or
the gearbox of the car to be started.
Start the engine. When the engine has
been started, remove the leads
reversing the order above. If after a few
attempts the engine does not start, do
not persist but contact a Fiat
Dealership.
IMPORTANT Do not directly connect
the negative terminals of the two
batteries: any sparks may ignite the
explosive gas which could come out of
the battery.
If the auxiliary battery is installed on
another car, prevent any contact
between metal parts of the two cars.
For versions with Start&Stop
system
In the case of emergency starting,
NEVER connect the negative lead (–) of
the auxiliary battery to negative pole (–)
of the battery, but only to an earth point
on the engine/gearbox assembly.
