The runout
of the crankshaft greatly affects
the
output of
the engine
at
high
speed.
Therefore,
the crankshaft must be
checked for runout after reassembled.
If the machine runs in races,
the
crankshaft
must
be
checked every
300
miles
of operation. The connecting
rod
large end bearing
should also be carefully checked for
smoothness.
To measure the
runout of
the
crankshaft, support the
crankshaft at its
both ends,
and
measure the
points (as
illustrated below) with a dial gauge.
The runout
should
be
0.0008''
(0.02
mm)
or
less
at
journales

and
