Brake Pad W ear Indicator Lamp

The brake pad w ear in d ic a to r lam p
in the in s tru m e n t c lu s te r stays on
w hen the key in the steering lo c k is
tu rn e d to d riv in g p o s itio n 2 and it
m ust go o u t w hen th e e n g ine is ru n ­
n ing. If the in d ic a to r lam p lig h ts up
d u rin g bra kin g , th is show s th a t the
fro n t w heel brake pads are w orn
dow n.
Have brake system checked in a
MERCEDES-BENZ service station
as soon as possible.

Brake Fluid

B rake flu id sh o u ld be changed once
a year, pre fe ra b ly in sp rin g .
Only use brake flu id recom m ended
by us. For fu rth e r in fo rm a tio n , refer
to " Fuels, C oolants, Lubricants,
e tc.".
W hen the m in im u m m ark on the re­
se rv o ir is reached, have th e system
checked (brake lin in g thickn e ss,
leaks).

C harge Indicator Lamp

S h o u ld th e cha rge in d ic a to r lam p
fail to com e on p rio r to sta rtin g
w hen the ig n itio n key is in p o s i­
tio n 2 o r sh o u ld it fail to go o u t a fter
s ta rtin g o r d u rin g op e ra tio n , th is
in d ica te s a fa u lt w h ich m ust be
repaired at a MERCEDES-BENZ
service sta tio n as soon as possible.
W hen th e c h a rg in g in d ic a to r lam p
g lo w s w h ile the en g in e is run n in g ,
the V -belt may have been to rn o ff
w h ic h m akes the w a te r pu m p also
in o p erative . T h is may cause over­
heating and dam age to the engine.
In th is case the V -belt m ust be
renew ed b efore d riv in g on.

Fuel Reserve W arning Lamp

The fuel reserve w a rn in g lam p w ill
com e on w hen th e ig n itio n key is
tu rn e d to p o s itio n 2, and w ill go out
a fte r th e e n g in e is ru n n in g .
If th e w a rn in g lam p stays on a fter
th e e n g ine starts, o r com es on w h ile
d riv in g , it in d ic a te s th a t the fuel
level is dow n to the reserve q ua n ­
tity.

Oil Pressure Gauge

The oil pressure may d ro p at idle
speed to 0.3 bar/4.4 psi if the engine
is at o p e ra tin g tem p e ra ture . This
w ill n o t je o p a rd iz e its o p e ra tiona l
re lia b ility . Pressure m ust, however,
rise im m e d ia te ly upon acceleration.
The o il pressure gauge w ill n o t p ro ­
vide early w a rn in g o f low oil level.
T herefore, che ck oil level at regular
in te rva ls w ith the d ip s tic k .

Coolant Tem perature Gauge

Due to the pressurized c o o lin g
system , the c o o la n t o n ly starts b o il­
ing at a tem p e ra tu re o f approx.
125° C/257° F w ith an a n ti-c o rro s io n /
a ntifreeze blended c o o la n t fill p ro ­
te c tin g do w n to - 3 0 ° C /- 2 2 0 F (see
also " Fuels, C oolants, L u bricants,
e tc ." ).
D uring severe o p e ra tin g c o n d itio n s
and sto p-a n d -go c ity tra ffic the
co o la nt te m p e ra tu re m ust n o t rise
above the red m a rkin g.
