OPTIONAL HAND-HELD
REMOTE OPERATION
NOTE: All remote control accessories must
be purchased separately (see Accessories,
Pages 34-35). Follow instructions included
with the remote control.
NOTICE: You must light the pilot
before using the hand-held re-
mote control unit. See Lighting
Instructions on Page 25.
After lighting, let pilot flame burn for about
one minute. Turn control knob to ON posi-
tion. Adjust flame adjustment knob anywhere
between HI and LO. Slide the selector switch
to the REMOTE position (see Figure 53).
NOTE: The burner may light if hand-held
remote was on when selector switch was last
turned off. You can now turn burner on and off
with hand-held remote control unit.
Check pilot flame pattern and burner flame
patterns often.
PILOT FLAME PATTERN
Figure 54 shows a correct pilot flame pattern.
Figure 55 shows an incorrect pilot flame pat-
tern. The incorrect pilot flame is not touching
the thermocouple. This will cause the thermo-
couple to cool. When the thermocouple cools,
the appliance will shut down.
If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown
in Figure 55.

NOTE: The pilot flame on natural gas units will
have a slight curve, but flame should be blue
and have no yellow or orange color.

IMPORTANT: Do not leave selector switch in
the REMOTE or ON position when pilot is not
lit. This will drain the battery.
NOTE: Do not hold hand-held remote for a
long time. Body temperature will affect its
operation in the AUTO mode.
