16.10.3 How to Replace a Module
There are two ways to replace a module, e.g. replacing a faulty module or installing a different module type.
Note: It is not necessary for the new module to be in the same backplane slot as the module to be removed. The
replacement module may be fitted and detected before the original module is removed, if required.
Note: Previous configuration backups will not be acceptable following the replacement or removal of modules. A new
backup should be made as soon as possible.
Replace may only be used to replace a module with a module of the same type. All settings from the old module are
transferred to the new module.
To replace a Module using 'Replace':
1.
Disconnect and remove the failing module. Note its UDID number.
2.
Fit the new module in its place, noting its UDID number.
3.
Initialise the ring to detect the new module.
4.
Select the module in the system setup view and select Replace.
5.
The system will display a list of available unconfigured modules. Select the required module UDID number.
6.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
7.
Back up the system.
8.
Reconnect and test as required.
Note: Replace may be used to replace several modules in one operation.
To replace a Module using 'Remove':
Remove may be used to replace a module with the same type, or to fit a different module type.
1.
Decommission the module, as described in Ch.16.10.1 & 16.10.2 above.
2.
Select the module in the system setup view and select Remove.
3.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.
4.
Remove the module from the backplane.
5.
Fit the new module and initialise the ring, as described below.
6.
Commission and configure the new module and channels.
7.
Back up the system.
8.
Reconnect and test as required.
