Installing M.2 Key-E Socket 1 Devices

M.2 Key-E Socket 1 slots are used to install WiFi or Bluetooth cards. Although the
actual orientation of the slot(s) may vary on different motherboards, the X299 uses a v-
angle adapter near the I/O ports. Please see Page 16 to locate the slot.
The X299 Dark accessories include an M.2 Key-E adapter, but do not include an M.2
Key-E Socket 1 device, which must be purchased separately. You can find a list of
officially supported M.2 Key-E devices on Page 46.
EVGA recommends that you install your M.2 Key-E device prior to installing other
your motherboard into your chassis. Installation and removal of Socket 1 devices
requires the removal of the I/O and M.2 cover on the motherboard, which cannot be
done once the motherboard is
installed in the chassis.
1. To access the M.2 Key-E
Socket 1 slot, carefully turn over
the motherboard and remove the
four screws circled in the image
with a Phillips #1 Screwdriver:
2. Next, turn the motherboard over and remove
the three screws around the rear I/O
components. This will detach the I/O cover
from the heatsink.
3. Remove the final two screws from the
opposite side of the I/O cover (near the top of
the motherboard), and then remove the internal
I/O shield.
