amplifies it. A subwoofer is not necessary, but the quality of your audio equipment will
determine how far you can raise the slider before the audio becomes distorted
"Crossover Frequency" should be adjusted based on your audio equipment. This setting
controls the frequency cutoff for speakers and subwoofer. To properly adjust this
setting, please see the guide for crossover frequency on Page 116.
"Smart Volume" addresses the problem of abrupt volume level changes during audio
playback by automatically and continuously measuring volume, and intelligently applying
gain and attenuation to compensate for those changes. This helps to reduce the sudden
dips and spikes in volume in order to sustain a narrower decibel range. In other words,
it will "chop off" decibel levels higher and lower based on the range specified by the
options. There are three presets and each can be adjusted using the slider. "Normal"
keeps the volume skewed towards a centered decibel level. "Loud" skews the volume
towards a higher decibel range. Finally, "Night" skews the volume level towards a
lower decibel range.
The last check box is "Dialog Plus." This volume control amplifies voices to make
dialog clearer in the midst of other audio content, including music, action sounds, or
other ambient noises.
