Braking system
BRAKING SYSTEM AIR BLEEDING
If there is air in the hydraulic system, it acts as a
bearing, absorbing a large part of the pressure
from the brake pump and minimising calliper effi-
ciency during braking. The presence of air is sig-
nalled by the "sponginess" of the brake control and
poor braking efficiency. This vehicle is fitted with a
braking system made up of:
a front disc brake;
a rear disc brake;
a retarding valve placed under the in-
strument panel.
Actuating on the (front) right brake lever, through
the brake pipe «1», exerts a pressure on the plung-
ers «A» and «C» on the front brake calliper. Ac-
tuating on the (rear) left brake lever, through the
retarding valve, exerts a pressure on the plunger
«B» of the front brake calliper and on the rear
brake calliper.
CAUTION
BE CAREFUL WHEN HANDLING BRAKE FLUID- IT AL-
TERS THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF PAINTING AND
PLASTIC AND RUBBER PARTS, ETC.
IT IS ADVISABLE TO WEAR LATEX GLOVES WHEN CAR-
RYING OUT SERVICE WORK.
WHEN YOU USE THE BRAKE FLUID, MAKE SURE NOT TO
SPILL IT ONTO PLASTIC OR PAINTED COMPONENTS AS
IT WILL DAMAGE THEM.
CAUTION
CONSIDERING THE DANGER FOR VEHICLE AND RIDER,
IT IS STRICTLY NECESSARY, AFTER REFITTING BRAKES
AND RESTORING THE BREAKING SYSTEM TO THE REG-
ULAR USE CONDITIONS, THAT THE HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT
BE AIR PURGED.
BRAKE FLUID MAY CAUSE IRRITATION IF IN CONTACT
WITH SKIN OR EYES. RINSE CAREFULLY ALL BODY
PARTS THAT HAVE COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE
FLUID. SHOULD THE FLUID COME INTO CONTACT WITH
YOUR EYES, SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE OR CONTACT AN
EYE SPECIALIST.
NOTE
PURGE AIR AS FOLLOWS: RETARDING VALVE, FRONT
BRAKE CALLIPER AND REAR BRAKE CALLIPER.
