Troubleshooting installation

Two situations require troubleshooting:
No power
If the Nortel Secure Network Access Switch 4050 system does not power on with
LED activation and fan operation as described, perform the following checks:
If the system does not power on correctly after checking these items, contact
Nortel Technical Support at
No display text
If the system powers on and there are no boot messages or console prompt,
perform the following checks:
If the system display does not function after checking these items, contact Nortel
Technical Support at
The system does not power on correctly.
The system powers on but shows no display text for initiating a session with
the switch.
Ensure that the power cord is connected to the Nortel Secure Network Access
Switch 4050 and connected to the AC power source.
Make sure the power source provides enough voltage and current. (See the
power supply specifications listed in Appendix A,
information.)
Ensure that the power switch on the rear of the system is turned on. Press the
front panel power button.
Ensure that the console cable is securely connected to the Nortel Secure
Network Access Switch 4050 and also to the terminal or PC running the
terminal session.
Check to make sure you have used the console cable supplied with the Nortel
Secure Network Access Switch 4050 system. (See

for information.)
