13. Install the fan modules. See Installing a fan module on page 62.
14. Install the disk drives in the same bays they were in the original enclosure. See Installing a disk drive.
15. Reconnect all cables to the enclosure, including the power cables.
16. When the enclosure has completed its power on sequence, perform one of the following depending on
which type of enclosure is involved.
a. If you are replacing the backplane in a drive enclosure, install the bottom I/O modules only. See
Installing an I/O module on page 59.
b. If you are replacing the backplane in an array enclosure, install the bottom controller modules. See
Installing a controller module on page 57 .

Verifying enclosure backplane operation

Procedure
1. When the second I/O module or controller module has completed its power on sequence, check all
enclosure status LEDs to ensure the enclosure is operating properly. For more information, see Status
LED descriptions on page 15.

Replacing a Fibre Channel SFP

The SFP is on the rear of the array enclosure and serves as the storage controller FC port.
WARNING:
When the system is on, do not stare at the fibers. Doing so could damage your eyes.

Removing a Fibre Channel SFP

Procedure
1. Disconnect the FC cable from the SFP.
2. Lift the retaining clip and carefully slide the SFP out of the enclosure.

Installing a Fibre Channel SFP

Procedure
1. Remove the replacement SFP module from its protective packaging.
CAUTION:
When handling the SFP, do not touch the gold contact leads to prevent damage.
2. Carefully slide the replacement SFP into the enclosure until fully seated.
3. Close the retaining clip to secure it in place.
4. Place the failed SFP into the packaging for return to Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
