BASIC OPERATION

■ Receiving and transmitting

q Rotate [VOL] clockwise to turn ON the transceiver power.
w Adjust the volume and squelch level.
➥ Push [SQL•
], and push [Z] to open the squelch.

➥ Push [SQL•
] to stop the "SQL" indicator blinking,

then rotate [VOL] to adjust the volume level.

e Push [Y]/[Z] to select the channel to call.
- When a signal is received, the [TRANSMIT/RECEIVE] indicator

lights green and the audio is emitted from the speaker.
- Further adjustment of [VOL] may be necessary at this point.

r Push [Hi/Lo•
] to select the output power if necessary.
- "LOW" appears when low power is selected. (No indication for

high power)
- Choose low power to conserve the battery power, choose high

power for longer distance communications.
- Some channels are limited to low power.

t Hold down [PTT] to transmit and speak into the
microphone at a normal voice level.

The [TRANSMIT/RECEIVE] indicator lights red while

transmitting.
y Release [PTT] to receive.

IMPORTANT: To maximize the readability of your transmit-
ted signal, pause for a second after pushing [PTT] and
hold the microphone 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) from your
mouth, and then speak at your normal voice level.
NOTE: To conserve battery power, the Power Save func-
tion automatically turns ON when no signal is received
for 5 seconds.
