■ Provisionally position the lower timber parallel to the
lower row of tiles (tie a line as a guide).
■ It may be necessary for existing battens to be
removed in the area taken up by the timbers.
Support the joint between batten and timber.

■ If cantilevers are created, support them with an on-
site batten.
■ Secure timbers along their entire length with 2
screws for every rafter.
