APRll..AIRE COMMUNICATING THERMOSTAT SYSTEM INSTALLATION MANUAL
4. Type SN? and hit enter.
The computer should respond SN1. This proves that the COMMUNICATIONS CARD with address
#1 is communicating.
.
If you got no response, type in SN? and hit enter again. If it still does not appear, go to the
Communication Panel make sure the main communication switches (see DlustratioD 8) are on and that
the communication switches to Communication Card #1 are on. If there is still no response, go to the
Trouble Shooting section (page 22) for additional items to check.
.
If the "SN" response contained a number other than one, the communication switches you turned on
were for an address other than number one. Go to the Communication Panel and address the
communication cards according to step "F. ADDRFSS EACH COMMUNICATION CARD" on page 8.
S. Type SNI F=ON and hit enter.
The computer should respond SNI F=ON. This proves that the THERMOSTAT is communicating.
Verify that the them1ostat you identified as having address #1 on the Inter-Connection Diagram
(Diagram #1) is the one that responded. This thermostat should be the only one with the Fan On (i.e. a
fan symbol showing on the dlermostat display).
6. TypeSNI F=AUTO and hit enter.
The computer should respond SNl F=AUTO. Now all thermostats should once again have the Fan in
Auto.
7. Go to the Communication Panel and turn off the communication switches for address #1 and turn on the
communication switches for address #2.
8. Type SN? then hit enter.
The computer should respond SN2. This proves that the Communications Card with address #2 is
communicating.
.
If you got the response SN 1, the communication cards have not been addressed correctly. Go to the
Communication Panel and address all of the communication cards as shown in DlustratioD 4.
9. Type SN2 F=ON and hit enter to verify that the thermostat you identified as having address #2 on the Inter-
Connection Diagram (Diagram #1) is the one that responded.
10. Type SN2 F=A UTO to return the Fan to die Auto mode.
11. Go to the Communication Panel and turn off the communication switches for address #2 and turn on the
communication switches for address #3.
12. Repeat this process to verify communications to all thermostats one address at a time.
.
Each time you turn on the communication switches to a new communication card, a new "SN" number
should respond. If this is not the case, go to the Communication Panel and address the communication
cards according to step "F. ADDRESS EACH COMMUNICATION CARD" on page 8.
13. Finally, go to the Conununication Panel and turn on all the communication switches.
14. Type SN? then hit enter.
All thermostats should respond. Make sure number of responses equals the number of thermostats in
your system.
IS. Once you have successfully completed this procedure you have verified that proper communication exists
between the computer and all of the thermostats. To test out all of the functions of the thermostat, use the
software or automation package this system is being installed with. You can check out other thermostat
functions using HyperTerminal: go to the ,. Aprilaire Command Set" section on page 25.
N. TROUBLE SHOOTING (SEE ILLUSTRATION 15 ON PAGE 21)
