11. Then select the 1A~(';11 ~etup.. .1 button. This
following selections (see Dlustration 14b):
./ Send line ends with line feeds
./ Echo typed characters locally
./ Append line feeds to incoming
line ends
./ Wrap lines that exceed terminal
width
12. Click OK to put away both dialog boxes.
13. Verify that you have a connection between
die computer and the Protocol Adapter.
Have the Protocol Adapter within eyesight
of the computer keyboard. Type any
character and confiml that the "RS-485,
Data. TX" LED and the "RS-232, Data,
RX" LED (see DlustratioD 5 on page 13)
on the Protocol Adapter flash as you type.
The LED's flash very quickly.
14. Hit Enter to clear the command line.
Note: on Windows '98 computers,
Hypertenninal does not echo typed
characters (doesn't show them on the screen
as you type) locally. Do not be concerned.
This can be a little confusing, but does not
affect the checkout of the thermostat
co!!1~,-~nication system.

If you were unable to verify a connection, specify a different com port. Go to the File pull down
menu, and select Properties. Change the "Connect usin&:" setting to a different port by using the pull
down menu options. Start typing and look for the Protocol Adapter LED's to flash. Repeat until you
have successfully verified connection between the computer and communication system, or until you
run out of com ports to choose from in the "Connect using:" pull down. If there is still no
communication you are going to have to consult a computer professional.

CHECK-oUT
COMMUNICATIONS TO EACH THERMOSTAT
1. Go to each thermostat and press the Fan button if
necessary to turn the Fan to Auto. If it is on, you

will see a fan symbol on the thermostat display. If

there is no fan symbol it is in Auto. Refer to the
A
thermostat Installation literature if this is unclear.
The fan will be used later to verify
communications.
2. Go to the computer and type SN? (it does not
matter if it is small or capital letters) then bit enter.
You should get no response because none of
the communication switches to the thermostats
have been turned on yet.
3. Go to the Communication Panel and turn on the
communication switches for the thermostat with
address #1. If the communication cards were
addressed according to Illustration 4 (page 10),
these switches will be in the upper left-band comer of the communication panel.
