17 Clean the axle and remove any corrosion
using steel wool. Check the axle for
straightness by rolling it on a flat surface such
as a piece of plate glass. If available, place the
axle in V-blocks and check it using a dial
gauge. If the axle is bent, renew it.
18 Check the condition of the wheel bearings
(see Section 16).
