Engine Maintenance

Servicing the Air Cleaner

Service Interval/Specification
Inspect the foam and paper elements and replace them if they
are damaged or excessively dirty.
Note: Service the air cleaner more frequently (every few
operating hours) if the operating conditions are extremely
dusty or sandy.
Important: Do not oil the foam or paper element.
Removing the Foam and Paper
Elements
1. Disengage the PTO and set the parking brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all moving
parts to stop before leaving the operating position.
3. Clean around the air cleaner to prevent dirt from
getting into the engine and causing damage (Figure 42).
4. Unscrew the cover knobs and remove the air cleaner
cover (Figure 42).
5. Unscrew the hose clamp and remove the air cleaner
assembly (Figure 42).
6. Carefully pull the foam element off the paper element
(Figure 42).

Cleaning the Foam Air Cleaner Element
Service Interval: Every 25 hours
1. Wash the foam element in liquid soap and warm water.
When the element is clean, rinse it thoroughly.

2. Dry the element by squeezing it in a clean cloth.
Important: Replace the foam element if it is torn
or worn.
Servicing the Paper Air Cleaner
Element
Service Interval: Every 50 hours—Check the paper air
cleaner element.
Every 200 hours—Replace the paper air
cleaner element.
1. Do not clean the paper filter, replace it (Figure 42).
2. Inspect the element for tears, an oily film, or damage to
the rubber seal.
3. Replace the paper element if it is damaged.
Installing the Foam and Paper Elements
Important: To prevent engine damage, always operate
the engine with the complete foam and paper air cleaner
assembly installed.
1. Carefully slide the foam element onto the paper air
cleaner element (Figure 42).
2. Place the air cleaner assembly onto the air cleaner base
or hose and secure it (Figure 42).
3. Place the air cleaner cover into position and tighten
the cover knob (Figure 42).

Servicing the Engine Oil

Service Interval: Before each use or daily—Check the engine
oil level.
After the first 8 hours—Change the
engine oil.
Every 100 hours—Change the engine oil.
(more often in dirty or dusty conditions)
Every 200 hours—Change the engine oil
filter.
Note: Change the oil more frequently when the operating
conditions are extremely dusty or sandy.
Note: There are different oil capacities for the different
models listed in this manual. Ensure the correct amount of
oil is used.
Important: Remember to add 80% of the oil and then
gradually fill it to the full mark on the dipstick.
Oil Type: Detergent oil (API service SF, SG, SH, SJ or SL)
Engine Oil Capacity: 71 ounces (2.1 liter) with the filter
removed; 61 ounces (1.8 liter) without the filter removed
Viscosity: Refer to the table below
