Operation

Note: Determine the left and right sides of the
machine from the normal operating position.

Think Safety First

Please carefully read all of the safety instructions and
decals in the safety section. Knowing this information
could help you or bystanders avoid injury.

Pre-Starting Checks

Check the following items each time you begin using
the vehicle for the day:
• Check the tire pressure.
Note: These tires are different than car tires; they
require less pressure to minimize turf compaction
and damage.
• Check all fluid levels and add the appropriate
amount of specified fluids, if any are found to be
low.
• Check the brake pedal operation.
• Ensure that the lights are working.
• Turn the steering wheel to the left and right to
check steering response.
• Check for oil leaks, loose parts, and any other
noticeable malfunctions. Make sure the engine is off
and all moving parts have stopped before checking
for oil leaks, loose parts, and other malfunctions.
If any of the above items are not correct, notify
your mechanic or check with your supervisor before
taking the vehicle out for the day. Your supervisor
may want you to check other items on a daily basis,
so ask what your responsibilities are.

Checking the Engine Oil

Service Interval: Before each use or daily
Note: The engine is shipped with oil in the crankcase;
however, the level of the oil must be checked before
and after the engine is first started.
Check the engine oil level before starting the engine
each day.
1. Position the machine on a level surface.
2. Clean around the oil dipstick (Figure 10 for model
numbers 07266/TC andFigure 11 for model
numbers 07273/TC) so dirt cannot fall into the
hole and damage the engine.

1. Oil dipstick (loop down)
3. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe the end clean.
4. Slide the oil dipstick into the filler tube fully seating
it. Pull the dipstick out and look at the end.
If the oil level is low, remove the filler cap and
add oil of the proper type to raise the level to, but
not over, the Full mark on the dipstick. Refer to
Servicing the Engine Oil in the Engine Maintenance
section in Maintenance, for the proper oil type and
viscosity. Add the oil slowly and check the level
often during this process. Do not overfill.
5. Install the oil dipstick firmly in place.
Important: Make sure the loop end of the oil
dipstick is pointing down on 07273/TC models.
Checking the Brake Fluid
Level
Check the brake fluid level before the engine is first
started; refer to Checking the Brake Fluid Level in the
Brake Maintenance section in Maintenance.
