4. Gently slide the filter out of the air cleaner body to
reduce the amount of dust dislodged (Fig. 21). Avoid
knocking the filter against the air cleaner body.
5. Inspect the filter and discard it if it is damaged.

Cleaning the Filter Element
Important
Do not wash or reuse a damaged filter.
1. Washing method:
A. Prepare a solution of filter cleaner and water and
soak the filter element about 15 minutes; refer to the
directions on the filter cleaner carton for complete
information.
B. After soaking the filter for 15 minutes, rinse it with
clear water. Rinse the filter from the clean side to
the dirty side.
Important
To prevent damage to the filter element,
maximum water pressure must not exceed 40 psi
(276 kPa).
C. Dry the filter element using warm, flowing air at
160 F (71 C) maximum, or allow the element to
air-dry.
Important
Do not use a light bulb to dry the filter
element because damage could result.

2. Compressed air method:
A. Blow compressed air from the inside to the outside
of the dry filter element. Keep the air hose nozzle at
least 2 inches (51 mm) from the filter and move the
nozzle up and down while rotating the filter
element.
Important
To prevent damage to the filter element,
do not exceed 100 psi (689 kPa) air pressure.
B. Inspect the filter element for holes and tears by
looking through the filter toward a bright light.
Installing the Filter Element
Important
To prevent engine damage, always operate
the engine with the complete air cleaner assembly installed.
1. Inspect the new filter for shipping damage. Check the
sealing end of the filter.
Important
Do not install a damaged filter.
2. Insert the new filter properly into the air cleaner body.
Ensure that the filter is sealed properly by applying
pressure to the outer rim of the filter when installing it.
Do not press on the flexible center of the filter.
3. Install the cover and secure the latches.

Greasing the Machine

Lubricate all bearings and bushings after every 100 hours
or once a year, whichever occurs first. Grease more
frequently when using for heavy-duty vehicle operations.
Grease Type: No. 2 General Purpose Lithium Base Grease
Where to Add Grease
The grease fitting locations are at the tie rod ends (4)
(Fig. 22) and the king pins (2) (Fig. 23).
1. Wipe grease fitting clean so foreign matter cannot be
forced into the bearing or bushing.
2. Pump grease into the bearing or bushing.
3. Wipe off excess grease.
