SSID visible
If you have selected this option the Gigaset SE505 dsl/cable will send the SSID in all
data transmissions. In this case eavesdroppers could use the SSID to gain access to
your network. Your router's SSID will also be displayed on PC's with a wireless net-
work adapter.
If you have deselected this option, wireless network components that want to con-
nect to the LAN must know the SSID. This offers a certain degree of protection
against unauthorised access.

Setting the Encryption

If you are sending sensitive data over wireless channels, we recommend that you acti-
vate encryption on your wireless network components. Your Gigaset SE505 dsl/cable
offers you two encryption methods: the
offers greater protection for your data. We therefore recommend that you choose this
method, assuming it is supported by all components in your wireless network.
u
Encryption protects data that is sent from one wireless node to
another, but not data transmitted in your wired network or via the
i
Internet.
u
If you are operating your router in a network with a RADIUS authenti-
cation server, please use Advanced Setup for configuration (see
page 69).

WPA-PSK

WPA
is a standard method for user identification during network login as well as for
data encryption during transmission. WPA is safer than WEP.
