Procedure 6.1 - Troubleshooting the Lower and Upper Data
Cable
Typical symptoms associated with a defective data cable are either an unresponsive display or
no power to the display. This procedure requires that you have a known good data cable, and
mid-point connector.
.
1.
Set the on/off switch in the "off" position.
2.
Remove the left side rear cover, Procedure 7.1. Remove the display assembly, Procedure
7.2.
3.
Disconnect the data cable and heart rate cable from the display assembly. Disconnect the
data cable from the lower PCA.
4.
Connect a known good data cable to the display assembly and the lower PCA.
5.
Set the on/off switch in the "on" position.
6.
If the problem still exists, the cause is not the data cable. Reconnect the cables
disconnected in step 3, reassemble the display assembly and see Procedure 6.5.
7.
If the problem was corrected by the known good data cable the cause is one of the data
cables or the mid-point connector. Continue with step 8.
8.
Carefully remove the right side outrigger, see Procedure 7.22. The mid-point connector is in
the lower front opening of the right side outrigger.
9.
Disconnect both data cables from the mid-point connector and replace it with a known good
mid-point connector.
10. Test the EFX, if the problem persists, replace the original mid-point connector and continue
with step 11.
11. Remove the data cable from the mid-point connector and the display assembly and
substitute the known good data cable.
12. Test the EFX, if the problem persists, replace the original data cable and continue with step
13.
13. Remove the data cable from the mid-point connector and the lower PCA and substitute the
known good data cable.
14. Test the EFX, if the problem persists, replace the original data cable and continue with step
15.
15. The cause could be the data cable connector on either the upper PCA (in the display
assembly) or the lower PCA. Visually inspect both connectors for physical damage. If the
data cable connector is damaged, the PCA will need to be replaced.
