3.4 SERVICE AiRCLEANER
The engine will not run properly and may be damaged if using a
dirty air cleaner.Cleanor replacethe air cleaner paperfilter every
200 hours or once a year (Figure13). Cleanor replacemore often
if operating under dusty conditions.
To clean or replacepaperair filter:
* Removeair cleanercover; then removethe paperfilter.
* Clean paperfilter by tapping it gently on a solid surface. If the
filter is too dirty, replace it with a new one. Disposeof the old
filter properly.
* Cleanair cleanercover,then insert new paperfilter into the base
of the air cleaner.Re-installair cleaner cover.

3.5 CLEAN SPARK ARRESTOR SCREEN
Theengineexhaustmufflerhas a sparkarrestor screen.Inspectand
cleanthe screen every 1O0hoursor at least once eachyear (Figure
14). If unit is used regularly,inspect and clean more often.
NOTE:
If usingthe generatoron any forest-covered, b rush-covered
or grass-coveredunimproved land, it mustequipped with a
spark arrestor.The spark arrestormustbe maintained in good
conditionby the owner/operator.
Cleanand inspectthe spark arrestor when the engine is at ambient
temperatureas follows:
Insert a flat blade screwdriver through the slot on the side of
the muffler heat shield to access the spark arrestor clamp.
Loosen the clamp and remove the spark arrestor screen from
the muffler.
* Inspect screen and replace if torn, perforated or otherwise
damaged. DO NOT USE a defective screen. If screen is not
damaged,clean it with commercial solvent.
* Replacethe spark arrestor and tighten the clamp.

3.6 GENERAL
Thegeneratorshouldbe startedat leastonce every sevendays and
be allowed to run at least 30 minutes. If this cannot be done and
the unit must be stored for more than 30 days, use the following
information as a guide to prepare it for storage.
NEVER store engine with fuel in tank indoors
or in enclosed, poorly ventilated areas where
fumes may reach an open flame, spark or pilot
light as on a furnace, water heater, clothes dryer
or other gas appliance.
,_AIIow unit to cool entirely before storage.
3.7 LONG TERM STORAGE
It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming in essential
fuel system parts such as the carburetor,fuel hose or tank during
storage. Also, experience indicates that alcohol-blended fuels
(called gasohol, ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture, which
leads to separation and formation of acids during storage.Acidic
gas can damagethe fuel system of an enginewhile in storage.
To avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be emptied
before storage of 30 days or longer,as follows:
• Removeall gasolinefrom the fuel tank.
