Getting Started

Introduction

The PDT 7200 is an advanced portable terminal that puts the processing power of a 486 PC
in the user's hand. The terminal incorporates touch screen technology, a graphical user
interface (GUI) and bar code scanning capability. With a 1/4 VGA-sized screen, the PDT 7200
supports two different input methods: touch input and virtual keypad input. The integrated
scanner adds bar code input capability, allowing one-dimensional and two-dimensional (with
®
the 2D scan engine) bar code reading. PDT 7200 models are also available with Spectrum24
RF wireless LAN technology.
®
The PDT 7200 uses a standard Windows
CE operating environment. The recommended
application development tool is Visual C++ with CE Toolkit.
Symbol provides extensions for non-PC peripherals (RF, scanning, power management, etc.)
and C-language APIs. To assist in downloading files to the PDT 7200 terminal, Symbol
provides the Windows-based Terminal Configuration Manager (TCM) that allows the user
to create a script listing the files to include in a hex image, build the hex image, and transfer
the hex image to the terminal.

Unpacking the Terminal

container for later storage and shipping.
