Connect t he second cable(negative -) to the otherpostofthe jumper
battery.

Connect t he otherendof the negative cableto the engineblockof the
tractor,awayfrom the battery. A ttachtoan unpainted part to assure agood
connection.
1.
Remove t he deck from beneaththetractor,(referto CuttingDeck Removal
earlierinthissection) t hengentlyflip the deck overto expose its underside.
2.
Place ablockof woodbetweenthe centerdeckhousing baffleandthe
cutting bladeto actasa stabilizer. S eeFigure 26.
3.
Remove t he hexflangenut that secures t he bladeto thespindleassembly.
If the jumper battery isinstalled on avehicle (i.e.car,truck), do NOT start
the vehicle's engine when jumpstarting yourtractor.
5.
Startthetractor(asinstructed earlierin thissection of thismanual).
6.
Setthe tractor'sparkingbrakebeforeremoving thejumpercables, i nreverse
orderof connection.
Charging
Batteriesgive off an explosivegaswhile charging.Chargethe battery in a
well ventilated area andkeepawayfrom an openflame or pilot light ason a
water heater,spaceheater,furnace,clothesdryer or other gasappliances.

Whenchargingyourtractor's battery, useonlya chargerdesignedfor 12Vlead-
acidbatteries.Read yourbattery charger's Owner'sManualprior to charging [
yourtractor'sbattery. Always follow its instructionsandheedits warnings,

If yourtractorhasnot beenput into usefor anextended periodof time,charge the
batteryasfollows:

Setyourbatterycharger t o deliveramaxof 10amperes.
2.
If yourbatterycharger i sautomatic, c harge the batteryuntil the charger
indicates thatchargingiscomplete. I fthe charger i s notautomatic, c harge
forno fewerthaneighthours.
Fuse
One20AMPfuseisinstalledin yourtractor'swiring harness t o protect t he tractor's
electrical s ystem from damage caused byexcessive a mperage.
If the electrical s ystemdoesnot function,or yourtractor'senginewill not crank,
first check to becertainthatthe fusehasnot blown.It canbefoundatthe rearof
the unit, underneath the fenderlocated bythe battery.
Alwaysuseafuse with the sameamperagecapacityfor replacement.
Cutting Blades
Shutthe engineoff andremoveignition keybefore removingthe cutting
blade(s)for sharpeningor replacement.Protectyour handsbyusing heavy
gloveswhen graspingthe blade.
Periodicallyinspectthe bladeandlor spindlefor cracksor damage,
especiallyafter you'vestruckaforeign object. Donot operatethe machine
until damagedcomponentsarereplaced.
Toremove the blades, p roceed asfollows:

Toproperlysharpen the cuttingblades, r emove equal a mountsofmetal
from bothendsof the bladesalongthe cuttingedges, p arallel t o the trailing
edge,at a25°- to 30°angle.Always grindeachcutting bladeedgeequallyto
maintainproperbladebalance. S ee Figure 27.

If the cutting edgeof the bladehaspreviouslybeensharpened,or if any
metal separationis present,replacethe bladeswith newones.
A poorlybalancedbladewill causeexcessive vibration, maycausedamageto
the tractor and/or result in personalinjury.
Testthe blade'sbalanceusinga bladebalancer. G rindmetalfrom the
heavysideuntil it balances e venly.
