Problem Solving
NOTE: Turn off the switch and unplug the electrical cord before servicing.
Problem
Motor will not start.
Motor suddenly stops.
Does not clean the carpet/floor.
No suction at the hose.
Headlight is not working.
(some models only)
Noise from the brushroll area.
Brushroll will not turn.
Burning smell.
Power Paw™ stair brush
doesn't work. (some models only)

Thermal Cut Off
This cleaner has a special thermostat that protects the cleaner in case of motor overheating. If the cleaner suddenly turns off, follow this procedure:
Step 1: Push on/off switch to off.
Step 2: Unplug cleaner.
Step 3: Check for source of overheating problem (i.e. full dust bag, clogged hose or clogged filters).
Step 4: If a full dust bag, clogged hose or clogged filter is found, replace the dust bag, unclog the hose or replace the filter.
Step 5: Wait at least 30 minutes before attempting to reuse the cleaner.
Step 6: After 30 minute cool down period, plug the cleaner in and push the switch pedal. The cleaner should turn on.
Step 7: If the cleaner still does not operate, call 1-800-282-2886 for customer assistance.

• Push plug securely into outlet.
• Try another outlet.
• Check circuit breaker.
• Refer to pages 3 and 26.
• Replace full dust bag.
• Make sure dust bag is installed properly and latch is secured.
• Make sure motor filter is clean.
• Replace cut, loose, out of shape belt.
• Clean hair and thread from bristles and end cap area.
• Replace brushroll if bristles are worn.
• Remove any clogs from the hose that restrict the airflow.
• Empty the dust bag.
• Clean and install filter properly.
• Make sure dust bag is installed properly and latch secured.
• Remove any clogs from the hose that restrict the airflow.
• Check both ends of the hose.
• Replace light bulb.
• Remove hood and clean debris from the brushroll area.
• Replace a cut, loose or out of shape belt.
• Remove hood and clean debris from the brushroll area.
• Replace broken belt.
• Remove hood and clean debris from the brushroll area/belt.
• Remove any clogs from the opening or debris around the
brushroll or belt.
