Carburetor Adjustments
The manufacturer of the equipment on
which this engine is installed specifies top
speed at which the engine will be operated. DO NOT
EXCEED this speed.
A primer equipped engine idles down only about 600 to
900 rpm below top speed, which accounts for the
higher than expected idle speed.
Air/fuel mixture is not adjustable.
See an Authorized Briggs & Stratton Dealer for
carburetor adjustment of a choke equipped engine.

Touch N Mow Starting System:
WARNING
If these instructions are not followed,
traumatic amputation or severe lacera
tion can result.
TOUCH N MOW) STARTING SYSTEM
• ALWAYS disconnect spark plug, de energize starter, lock
and remove safety key BEFORE performing ANY
service to the engine or mower.
• DO NOT attempt any maintenance or repairs to the
Touch N Mow starter.
• NEVER assume starter is de energized, even if key is
in LOCK AND REMOVE position and/or removed from
engine.
• BEFORE removing grass or other debris from under
mower deck; BEFORE changing oil, air filter or spark
plug; BEFORE removing blade for servicing; BEFORE
performing any other service to engine or mower;
BEFORE transporting mower - ALWAYS DE ENER
GIZE TOUCH N MOW STARTER.
• ALWAYS lock and remove safety key and store in safe
place until next use. The safety key is designed and
intended to be removed from engine when not in use.
Removing key will prevent unsupervised or unex
pected starting of mower by children or unsuspecting
adults. The safety key must be in locked position
before it can be removed.
CAUTION:
If engine must be tipped to transport
equipment or to inspect or remove grass, keep
Ì
spark plug side of engine up.
If engine spark plug is down, it may cause:
1. Smoking,
2. Hard starting,
3. Spark plug fouling,
4. Oil saturation of air filter.
Oil Service
Change oil after first 5 hours of operation. Check every
5 hours or daily, before starting engine. Change oil
while engine is warm.
If draining oil from top of engine, keep air cleaner
side up. Oil can be drained with spark plug side up, if
necessary.
Î
By removing drain plug
with a ratchet and square
Ï
extension
, oil can be drained from engine bottom.
Refill with new oil of recommended SAE viscosity

grade. (see fig.
) See oil filling procedure under Oil
Recommendations. Check oil level regularly.
Be sure correct oil level is maintained.
