Belt not installed correctly
Grass too wet
Grass too tall
RPM of tractor too low
Ground speed too fast
Plugged grooming mower
Debris in sheave
Low belt spring tension
Worn belt
RPM of tractor too low
Ground speed too fast
Blade damaged or dull
Blade rotation wrong
Low lubricant level
Cutting too low
Ridges in terrain
Fast turning speed
Ground speed too fast
Mower not level
Dull blades
RPM of engine too low
Ground speed too fast
Debris wrapped around mower

Tractor PTO horsepower rating

Blades lift too high
Solution
Check installation of belt
Wait until grass dries
Raise cutting height of mower and cut grass twice
Mow at full throttle (540 PTO rpm) Check PTO speed &
tractor engine
Shift transmission to a lower gear
Unplug and clean mower deck
Remove belt guard shields and clean sheaves
Retighten spring take-up bolt
Replace belt
Mow at full throttle (540 PTO rpm). Check PTO speed &
tractor engine
Shift transmission to a lower gear
Sharpen & balance or replace blade
Install correct rotation blade
Check lubricant level
Raise cutting height by adjusting wheels
Change mowing pattern
Reduce speed on turns
Shift to a lower gear
Level mower
Sharpen blades & balance or replace
Mow at tractor's rated PTO RPM (540 PTO RPM)
Shift to a lower gear
Clean mower
Raise cutting height of the mower and cut the grass
twice. Shift to a lower gear. Use a tractor with more
horsepower
Change to lower lift blades if they will cut the grass
satisfactorily
