Receive Data and Insert Constants
The expanded communications feature enables you to
receive data and insert constants into a new record.
The position where the received fields are to be inserted
and the position and content of the constant duplicate
data and blanks is defined by a receive data and insert
constants program that is loaded before teleprocessing
is initiated. A receive data and insert constants program
is defined by a greater-than sign
in position 1 of a
program. The greater-than sign is also used to indicate
the positions into which data from the communications
line is to be inserted.
~AII
characters not corresponding
to a greater-than sign in the program are considered dup-
licate information and are placed in every record written
on disk in that data set. Since the first position of the
program must contain the greater-than sign, the first
position of the data record written on disk always con-
tains data from the communications line. The number
of greater-than signs in the program must equal the num-
ber of characters received 'per record. Also, the last non-
blank position in the program buffer indicates record
length.
The receive data and insert constants program can be load-
ed into program buffers 8, 9, or A. See Program Control
for considerations concerning the loading of program
buffers. The following is an example of receiving data
and inserting constants.

Unattended Printing
The expanded communications feature enables you to have
unattended printing after a receive operation if your 3741
Model 2 or 4 has a printer attached. The operator can set
up the unattended printing function by keying FUNCT SEL
upper and COMM, followed by FUNCT SEL upper and
PRINT TO EOD, then use the appropriate mode key. The
AUTO R EC ADV switch must be set at ON. The keying
sequence causes a P to be displayed in position 37. The
first data set received is printed after completion of an
error-free receive operation. Printing is formatted accord-
ing to the contents of program buffer A. If the format
control program is to be manually selected, it must be se-
lected before entering communications mode.
If a 3713 is attached to the 3741, the first data set must
be on disk 1 for unattended printing to occur. If a data
set is continued on disk 2, operator intervention is required
in order to print the continuation.
I f a 3715 or 3717 is attached to the 3741, the fi rst received
data set is printed unattended, no matter where it is located
(disk 1 or disk 2). If the data set starts on disk 1, the com-
plete data set is printed even if it continues on disk 2.
Upon completion of unattended printing, the 3741 Models
2 and 4 will reset to sector 7 of disk 1 after transmitting
from disk 1 and receiving on disk 2.
